Prelude: O Come and Sing unto the Lord

Irish tune, arr. Wood

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 78]

God commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven;

he rained down manna to eat, and gave his people the grain of heaven.

Mortals ate of the bread of angels; he sent them food in abundance.

They ate and were well filled, for he gave them what they craved.

Let us worship the LORD!

Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken (Hymn 446)

Haydn/Newton

Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God;
God, whose word cannot be broken, formed thee for a blest abode.
On the rock of ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded, thou mayest smile at all thy foes.

See, the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters and all fear of want remove.
Who can faint while such a river ever flows their thirst to assuage?
Grace, which like the Lord the giver, never fails from age to age.

Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear
For a glory and a covering, showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from their banner light by night and shade by day,
Safe they feed upon the manna which God gives them when they pray.

Confession

God who hears our complaining, you provide for us day by day. However, we often respond to uncertainty with fear and doubt. Forgive us when we worry about tomorrow and fail to rely on you today. Forgive us for rejecting what we do not immediately understand, or closing our imaginations to mystery and newness. Trusting in your care, help us work for your kingdom and remain open to wonder. Amen.

Just As I Am, Without One Plea (Hymn 370)

Elliott/Bradbury

Just as I am, without one plea but that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou biddest me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Just as I am, Thou will receive, will welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Response: God, You Spin the Whirling Planets

Parry/Huber

God, you spring the whirling planets, fill the seas and spread the plain,
Mold the mountains, fashion blossoms, call forth sunshine, wind, and rain.
We, created in your image, would a true reflection be
Of your justice, grace, and mercy and the truth that makes us free.

You have called us to be faithful in our life and ministry.
We respond in grateful worship joined in one community.
When we blur your gracious image, focus us and make us whole.
Healed and strengthened as your people, we move onward toward your goal.

God, your word is still creating, calling us to life made new.
Now reveal to us fresh vistas where there’s work to dare and do.
Keep us clear of all distortion. Polish us with loving care.
Thus, new creatures in your image, we’ll proclaim Christ everywhere.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Stewardship

Judy Stafstrom

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. -Romans 12:4-5

Offering: They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love

Scholtes

Doxology

Scholtes

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come,
and all praise to Christ Jesus, God’s only Son,
and all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one:
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.
