Prelude: The Lord of the Dance

Shaker Hymn/Held

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 130]

Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of our supplications!

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.
We wait for the Lord, and in his word we hope;

Our soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.

Let us worship the LORD!

I Danced in the Morning (Hymn 302)

American Shaker melody/Carter

I danced in the morning when the world was begun,
And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,
And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth;
At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Refrain:
Dance, then, wherever you may be;
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He,
And I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I’ll lead you all in the dance, said He.

I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee,
But they would not dance and they would not follow Me;
I danced for the fishermen, for James and John;
They came with Me and the dance went on. (refrain)

I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame;
The holy people said it was a shame.
They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high,
And left me there on a cross to die. (refrain)

I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black;
It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back.
They buried My body and they thought I’d gone:
But I am the dance and I still go on. (refrain)

They cut me down and I leap up high;
I am the life that will never, never die;
I’ll live in you if you’ll live in Me;
I am the Lord of the Dance, said He. (refrain)

Confession

Holy God, we confess that we often stray from living wholeheartedly. We begin good works in eagerness, but later grow weary or discouraged. Forgive us when we do not follow through in honoring our commitments. Forgive us when fear and envy dull our generosity. Meet us in our lament and need, and lead us into praise. Help us trust in the abundance of your love and share your compassion wherever we may go. Amen.

Children’s Message

The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want

Townend

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me lie in pastures green.
He leads me by the still, still waters, His goodness restores my soul.

(Chorus)
And I will trust in You alone. And I will trust in You alone.
For your endless mercy follows me –Your goodness will lead me home.

He guides my ways in righteousness, and He anoints my head with oil,
and my cup, it overflows with joy – I feast on his pure delights. (Chorus)

And though I walk the darkest path, I will not fear the evil one –
for You are with me, and your rod and staff are the comfort I need to know. (Chorus)

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
