Prelude: Cantilena

Charity Boyles

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 37]

Do not fret because of the wicked; for they will soon fade like the grass.

Trust in the Lord and do good; Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Our steps are made firm by the Lord, when he delights in our way.

Though we stumble, we shall not fall headlong, for the Lord holds us by the hand.

Let us worship the LORD!

O Praise the Gracious Power (Hymn 471)

Doran/Troeger

(Verses 1, 3, 4, 7)

O praise the gracious power that tumbles walls of fear
And gather in one house of faith all strangers far and near:
We praise You, Christ! Your cross has made us one!

O praise inclusive love, encircling every race,
Oblivious to gender, wealth, to social rank or place:
We praise You, Christ! Your cross has made us one!

O praise the word of faith that claims us as God’s own,
A living temple built on Christ, our rock and cornerstone:
We praise You, Christ! Your cross has made us one!

O praise the living Christ with faith’s bright songful voice!
Announce the gospel to the world and with these words rejoice:
We praise You, Christ! Your cross has made us one!

Confession

Self-giving God, you call us to be merciful as you are merciful, and to love even our enemies. Forgive us when we would rather pass the hurt back. It takes a lot of courage to look past an enemy's hurtful actions and treat them as a fellow human. Yet in Jesus, this is what you have done for us. Help us draw closer to Jesus and trust your ways. May we discover our freedom to respond with kindness and interrupt cycles of conflict. Amen.

Give Thanks

Smith

Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One,
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.

And now let the weak say, “We are strong,”
Let the poor say, “We are rich” because of what the Lord has done for us.

Give thanks. Give thanks. Give thanks.

[Ephesians 5:19-20]

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

God of Mercy, God of Grace (Hymn 203)

Wilson/Lyte

God of mercy, God of grace, show the brightness of your face;
Shine upon us, Savior, shine, fill us with your light divine.

Let the people praise you, Lord, be by all that live adored;
At your feet their tribute pay, and your holy will obey.

Let the nations shout and sing, glory to their Savior bring;
All below and all above sing your praise with joy and love.

Let the people praise you, Lord, earth shall then its fruits afford;
Shine upon us, Savior, shine, fill us with your light divine.

[Psalm 67]

Sermon: The Apostles’ Creed, Week 3

Focus: “…God’s Only Son, Our Lord"

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
