Introit: Fanfare on “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”

Luther/arr. Hopson

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Micah 6:6-8]

With what shall we come before the Lord, and bow ourselves before God on high?

Shall we come before him with burnt offerings, or give our firstborn for our transgressions?

He has told you, O mortals, what is good; and what the Lord requires of you:

To do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God.

Let us worship the LORD!

I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art (Hymn 457)

Attr. John Calvin/Genevan Psalter

I greet thee, who my sure Redeemer art,
My only trust and Savior of my heart,
Who pain didst undergo for my poor sake;
I pray thee from our hearts all cares to take.

Thou art the King of mercy and of grace,
Reigning omnipotent in every place:
So come, O King, and our whole being sway;
Shine on us with the light of thy pure day.

Thou art the life, by which alone we live,
And all our substance and our strength receive;
Sustain us by thy faith and by thy power,
And give us strength in every trying hour.

Our hope is in no other save in thee;
Our faith is built upon thy promise free;
Lord, give us peace, and make us calm and sure,
That in thy strength we evermore endure.

Confession

God of gentleness and power, what you require of us is not perfection, but honest repentance. We come to you not with sacrifices to make up for our sins, but asking your forgiveness so that you can free us to live differently. Even so, forgive us when we bring only pieces of ourselves into your light. Forgive us when we think your work is irrelevant in some areas of our lives and default to the ways of the world. In your mercy, help us to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you, bringing our whole selves to your service. Amen.

You Are My All in All

Jernigan

You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the treasure that I seek. You are my All in All.
Seeking You as a precious jewel,
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool. You are my All in All!

(Chorus)
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, Worthy is Your name.

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,
Rising again I bless Your name. You are my All in All.
When I fall down, You pick me up;
When I am dry, You fill my cup. You are my All in All!

[Matthew 6:21]

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less (Hymn 379)

Bradbury/Mote

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging race;
In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.
(refrain)

His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.
(refrain)

Response: In Christ Alone

Getty & Townend

In Christ alone my hope is found.
He is my light, my strength, my song.
This Cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

From the Barmen Declaration

Steve Blewett

Sermon: We give every aspect of our life to Christ. Nothing is “siloed.”

Together we confess:

As Jesus Christ is God's comforting pronouncement of the forgiveness of all our sins, so, with equal seriousness, he is also God's vigorous announcement of his claim upon our whole life. Through him there comes to us joyful liberation from the godless ties of this world for free, grateful service to his creatures.

We reject the false doctrine that there could be areas of our life in which we would not belong to Jesus Christ but to other lords, areas in which we would not need justification and sanctification through him.

Response: Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me (Hymn 366)

Hemy/Gerhardt

Jesus, thy boundless love to me no thought can reach, no tongue declare;
O knit my thankful heart to thee, and reign without a rival there!
Thine wholly, thine alone, I’d live, myself to thee entirely give.

O grant that nothing in my soul may dwell, but thy pure love alone;
O may thy love possess me whole, my joy, my treasure, and my crown!
All coldness from my heart remove; may every act, word, thought be love.

O Love, how gracious is thy way! All fear before thy presence flies;
Care, anguish, sorrow melt away, where’er thy healing beams arise.
O Jesus, nothing may I see, nothing desire, or seek, but thee.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
