Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 31]

In you, O Lord, we seek refuge; do not let us be put to shame;

incline your ear to us; rescue us speedily.

Be a rock of refuge for us, a strong fortress to save us.

You are indeed our rock and our fortress; for your name’s sake lead us and guide us.

We will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love, because you have seen our affliction.

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord.

Let us worship the LORD!

All Hail the Power (Hymn 142)

Holden/Perronet/Rippon

All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all!
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all!

Let every kindred, every tribe, on this terrestrial ball,
To Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all!
To Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all!

O that with yonder sacred throng we at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all!
We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all!

Confession

Jesus, our refuge, we confess that our hearts are troubled by the concerns of the world, the divisions in our country, and many other cares. Knowing that change is needed, forgive us when we rely only on our own efforts rather than trusting your grace and your plans. In our worry, we lose touch with your presence among and within us and struggle to grasp the firm foundation of your interconnectedness with the Father. Remind us again that we are your people: loved, cared for, forgiven, and empowered to do your work. Amen.

You Are My Refuge, Faithful God

Gambrell/Wyeth’s Repository of Sacred Music

You are my refuge, faithful God; you shelter me from shame.
I put my spirit in your hands and call upon your name.

And yet I trust in you, O God; your covenant still stands.
Redeem me, in your faithful love: my life is in your hands.

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Crown Him with Many Crowns (Hymn 151)

Elvey/Bridges

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne;
Hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of peace; whose power a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease, absorbed in prayer and praise:
His reign shall know no end; and round His pierced feet
Fair flowers of Paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time;
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me;
Thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.

Scripture Readings

John Lemm

Old Testament: Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16

New Testament: John 14:1-14

Sermon: Untroubled Truth

Scott Starbuck

Focus: Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.

Response: Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! (Hymn 144)

Prichard/Dix

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne!
Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone!
Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood;
Jesus out of every nation hath redeemed us by His blood.

Alleluia! Bread of angels, Thou on earth our food, our stay.
Alleluia! Here the sinful flee to Thee from day to day.
Intercessor, friend of sinners, earth’s Redeemer, plead for me,
Where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea.

Alleluia! King eternal, Thee the Lord of lords we own;
Alleluia! Born of Mary, earth Thy foot-stool, heaven Thy throne.
Thou within the veil has entered, robed in flesh, our great High Priest;
Thou on earth both Priest and Victim in the eucharistic feast.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
