Introit: Crown Him with Many Crowns

DIADEMATA/Elvey, arr. Burkhardt

Leonard Byrne, euphonium

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Jeremiah 23]

Thus says the Lord: Woe to the shepherds who have scattered my flock,

and have driven them away, and have not attended to them.

God himself will gather the remnant of his flock out of all the lands.

God will raise up shepherds over them who will shepherd them,

and they shall not fear any longer.

They shall not be dismayed, nor shall any be missing.

Let us worship the LORD!

Crown Him with Many Crowns (Hymn 151)

Elvey/Bridges

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne;
Hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own!
Awake, my soul, and sing of Him who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of love; behold His hands and side,
Rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified:
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of peace; whose power a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease, absorbed in prayer and praise:
His reign shall know no end; and round His pierced feet
Fair flowers of Paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time;
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me;
Thy praise shall never, never fail throughout eternity.

Confession

Shepherding God, you have compassion for those scattered and oppressed by worldly governments and disasters. You have crowned Jesus Christ as Lord of all, whose kingship was not in worldly power but in suffering and service. Forgive us when we do not know how to follow in your footsteps. Help us open our hearts to know Christ more deeply, and inspire us to participate in your love of justice. Amen.

Silence

You Are My King

Foote

(Verse)

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken. I’m accepted; You were condemned.
I’m alive and well, Your Spirit is within me because You died and rose again.

(Refrain)

Amazing love, how can it be that You, my King, would die for me?
Amazing love, I know it’s true; it’s my joy to honor You.
In all I do I honor You.

(Repeat verse)

You are my King. You are my King.
Jesus, You are my King. Jesus, You are my King. (refrain)

[Romans 8:11]

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

O Lord, You Are My God and King (Hymn 252)

Parry/The Psalter, 1912

O Lord, you are my God and King, and I will ever bless your name;
I will extol you every day, and evermore your praise proclaim.
You, Lord, are greatly to be praised, your greatness is beyond our thoughts;
All generations shall tell forth the mighty wonders you have wrought.

How rich in grace are you, O Lord, full of compassion, merciful,
Your anger always slow to rise; your steadfast love you show to all,
For you are good in all your ways, your creatures know your constant care.
To all your works your love extends, all souls your tender mercies share.

Your works will give you thanks, O Lord, your saints your mighty acts will show,
Till all the peoples of the earth your kingdom, power, glory know.
Eternal is your kingdom, Lord, forever strong, forever sure;
While generations rise and die, your high dominion will endure.

[Psalm 145:1-13]

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
