Welcome & Call to Worship
[Psalm 145]
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all, and his compassion is over all that he has made.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.
Let us worship the LORD!
Holy, Holy, Holy (Hymn 138)
Heber/Dykes
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinfulness Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love and purity.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name, in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Confession
God of all compassion, you call us to show your kindness to neighbors and strangers alike, even as you have shown us your tender mercy in Jesus Christ. Forgive us when we want to reserve mercy only for the people we think deserve it. Father, remind us that you sent your Son to save, not to condemn. Jesus, awaken us to your call to make disciples of all nations. Spirit, surround us with your love, and help us turn from resentment to joy in others’ salvation. Amen.
Silence

Children’s Message
There Is a Balm in Gilead (Hymn 394)
African-American spiritual
Refrain:
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole.
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul.
Sometimes I feel discouraged, and think my work’s in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again. (refrain)
Don’t ever feel discouraged, for Jesus is your friend,
And if you lack for knowledge He’ll not refuse to lend. (refrain)
If you cannot preach like Peter, if you cannot pray like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus and say, “He died for all.” (refrain)

Old Testament: Jonah 4:1–4
New Testament: Matthew 28:18-20
Sermon:
Lord, I can't wait to see their faces, When I get the nerve to say
Focus: Our Lament might expose rot within and missed missional opportunities
Response: Though I May Speak (Hymn 335)
Hopson/English folk melody
Though I may speak with bravest fire, and have the gift to all inspire,
And have not love, my words are vain; as sounding brass, and hopeless gain.
Though I may give all I possess, and striving so my love profess,
But not be given by love within, the profit soon turns strangely thin.
Come, Spirit, come our hearts control, our spirits long to be made whole.
Let inward love guide every deed; by this we worship and are freed.
Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
