Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 148]

Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights!
Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise the LORD from the earth, kings of the earth and all peoples!
Young men and women alike, old and young together!
Let us worship the LORD!

Earth and All Stars

Johnson/Brokering

Earth and all stars, loud rushing planets, sing to the Lord a new song!
Hail, wind, and rain, loud blowing snowstorm, sing to the Lord a new song!
God has done marvelous things. We will sing praises with a new song!

Trumpet and pipes! Loud clashing cymbals! Sing to the Lord a new song!
Harp, lute, and lyre! Low humming cellos! Sing to the Lord a new song!
God has done marvelous things. We will sing praises with a new song!

Engines and steel! Loud pounding hammers! Sing to the Lord a new song!
Limestone and beams! Loud building workers! Sing to the Lord a new song!
God has done marvelous things. We will sing praises with a new song!

Knowledge and truth, loud sounding wisdom, sing to the Lord a new song!
Daughter and son, loud praying members, sing to the Lord a new song!
God has done marvelous things. We will sing praises with a new song!

Confession

God of mercy, your command to love one another opens us to new horizons. Forgive us when we respond to others with fear and judgment. Forgive us when we are unwilling to embrace the vulnerability of love. Lead us to a true repentance that fosters life for all creation. Help us come alongside each other as we use our gifts in your service. Amen.

Give Thanks

Smith

Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One,
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.

And now let the weak say, “We are strong,”
Let the poor say, “We are rich”
Because of what the Lord has done for us.

Give thanks. Give thanks. Give thanks.

[Ephesians 5:19-20]

Sermon: Christ’s Mandate

Focus: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

Response: We Are One in the Spirit

Scholtes

We are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord;
We are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord;
And we pray that all unity may one day be restored.

Chorus:

And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

We will walk with each other; we will walk hand in hand;
We will walk with each other; we will walk hand in hand;
And together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land.

(Chorus)

We will work with each other; we will work side by side;
We will work with each other; we will work side by side;
And we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride.

(Chorus)

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come,
And all praise to Christ Jesus, God’s only Son,
And all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.

(Chorus)

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Giving our Gifts to God

Betsy Hammond

Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common.

-Acts 4:32
