Call to Worship

[Psalm 145]

We will extol you, our God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

The Lord is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings.

Let us worship the LORD!

God Is Here! (Hymn 461)

Taylor/Green

God is here! As we your people meet to offer praise and prayer,
May we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share.
Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts
Wait the coming of the Spirit into open minds and hearts.

Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace;
Here are table, font, and pulpit; here the cross has central place.
Here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech,
Here, in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each.

Lord of all, of church and kingdom, in an age of change and doubt
Keep us faithful to the gospel, help us work your purpose out.
Here in this day’s dedication, all we have to give, receive:
We, who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe!

Confession

God of promise, we have yearned for earlier days, when all seemed well, and our cause seemed strong. Forgive us when we do not know how to be your church in a changing world. Forgive us when we are afraid for the future. Help us take courage and trust that you will complete the good work you started in us. Surround us with your abiding Spirit, and open our eyes to new possibilities as we commit to your work. Amen.

Silence

Restore in Us, O God

Hopson/Daw

Restore in us, O God, the splendor of your love;
Renew your image in our hearts, and all our sins remove.

O Spirit, wake in us the wonder of your power;
From fruitless fear unfurl our lives like spring-time bud and flower.

Bring us, O Christ, to share the fullness of your joy;
Baptize us in the risen life that death cannot destroy.

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Solo: "Thus Saith the Lord” from Messiah

Handel

Thus saith the Lord, the Lord of Hosts:
Yet once a little while, and I will shake—
the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land;
and I will shake— the nations, and the desire of all nations shall come.

Sermon: The New Thing God is Building

Rev. Katie Stark, Missional Expeditor

Focus: God is at work in new and surprising ways that look different than the church most of us grew up with.

Response: Gather Us In

Haugen

Here in this place the new light is streaming; now is the darkness vanished away;
See in this space our fears and our dreamings brought here to you in the light of this day.
Gather us in, the lost and forsaken; gather us in, the blind and the lame;
Call to us now, and we shall awaken; we shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young, our lives are a mystery. We are the old who yearn for your face.
We have been sung throughout all of history, called to be light to the whole human race.
Gather us in, the rich and the haughty; gather us in, the proud and the strong;
Give us a heart, so meek and so lowly; give us the courage to enter the song.

Not in the dark of buildings confining, not in some heaven, light years away;
Here in this place the new light is shining; now is the kingdom, and now is the day.
Gather us in and hold us forever; gather us in and make us your own;
Gather us in, all peoples together, fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
