Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 95]

O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.

Come, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.

Let us worship the LORD!

Come Thou Fount

Robinson

Come, Thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of God’s unchanging love!

Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’m come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;
He to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace now, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

Confession

God of compassion, you call us to show kindness to neighbors and strangers alike, even as you have shown us your tender mercy, embodied in Jesus Christ. Forgive us when we pass by the vulnerable and leave your ministry of mercy to others. Forgive us when we fail to see new opportunities for community. Stir up in us your Spirit of compassion, that we may gladly aid those in distress. Make us beacons of your hope, comfort, and justice. Amen.

Take My Life and Let It Be (Hymn 391)

Malan/Havergal

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy (Hymn 298)

Faber/Dutch melody

There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in God’s justice, which is more than liberty,
There is no place where earth’s sorrows are more felt than up in heaven;
There is no place where earth’s failings have such kindly judgment given.

For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind;
And the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more faithful, we would gladly trust God’s Word;
And our lives reflect thanksgiving for the goodness of our Lord.

Sermon: Won’t You Be(come) My Neighbor?

Rev. Jonathan Cornell

Focus: The Holy Spirit is inviting God’s people into a new imagination of mission and community by sending vulnerable into our midst.

Response: Come, Live in the Light

Haas

Come! Live in the light! Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord!
We are called to be light for the kingdom,
to live in the freedom of the city of God.
We are called to act with justice; we are called to love tenderly;
We are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God.

Come! Open your heart! Show your mercy to all those in fear!
We are called to be hope for the hopeless
so hatred and violence will be no more.
We are called to act with justice; we are called to love tenderly;
We are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God.

Sing! Sing a new song! Sing of that great day when all will be one!
God will reign, and we’ll walk with each other
as sisters and brothers united in love.
We are called to act with justice; we are called to love tenderly;
We are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
