Prelude: Praeludium from Partita No. 1 in B flat Major

J. S. Bach

Introit: Lord, Our Lord, Thy Glorious Name

The Psalter 1912/GOTT SEI DANK

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 8]

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

When we look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars that you have established;

What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.

Let us worship the LORD!

Holy, Holy, Holy (Hymn 138)

Dykes/Heber

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee
Who wert and art, and evermore shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinfulness Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name, in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Confession

Triune God, you brought the world into being and create each of us in your image. When we look at the grandeur of creation, we feel small and unimportant. Similarly, we do not understand how you exist or work as One God in Three Persons. Forgive us when we simply ignore these mysteries rather than holding them in faith. Forgive us when we mistake our incomprehension for distance from you. Father, Son, and Spirit, help us recognize your image in others, in ourselves, and in how we connect to one another. Amen.

Purify My Heart

Nelson

Purify my heart. Touch me with your cleansing fire.
Take me to the cross; Your holiness is my desire.
Breathe Your life in me,
Kindle a love that flows from Your throne.
Oh, purify my heart, Purify my heart.

[2 Corinthians 7:1]

How Great Thou Art (Hymn 467)

Swedish folk melody/Hine

O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
consider all the worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
thy power throughout the universe displayed;

Refrain:
Then sings my soul, my Savior, God, to thee,
How great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior, God, to thee,
How great thou art, how great thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze…

(Refrain)

And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin…

(Refrain)

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

(Refrain)
