Introit: Come You Faithful, Raise the Strain

Horn/Biery

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 107]

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those he redeemed from trouble.

Those he gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west,

from the north and from the south.

They cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

Let us worship the LORD!

O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing (Hymn 466)

Wesley/Glaser

O for a thousand tongues to sing my dear Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of God’s grace!

Jesus, the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease,
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears, ‘tis life, and health, and peace.

Christ breaks the power of reigning sin, and sets the prisoner free;
Christ’s blood can make the sinful clean, Christ’s blood availed for me.

My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad the honors of thy name.

Confession

God of tender compassion, you recoiled from turning against your people in anger, even when they kept turning away from you to idols. Forgive us when we strive for things of this world and ignore your call. Forgive us when we turn on each other in anger and use words in hurtful ways. Help us trust that our life and belonging is with you. Renew us in Christ and help us live as your children. Amen.

Silence

Lord Jesus, Think on Me (Hymn 301)

Synesius of Cyrene/Daman’s Psalmes

Lord Jesus, think on me, and purge away my sin;
From earth-born passions set me free, and make me pure within.

Lord Jesus, think on me, nor let me go astray;
Through darkness and perplexity point thou the heavenly way.

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

How Firm a Foundation (Hymn 361)

American folk melody/ “K” in A Selection of Hymns

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in God’s excellent Word!
What more can be said than to you God hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

“Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

“When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
For I will be near thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.”

Focus: Now you must get rid of all such things--anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth.

Musical Response: O Christ, Surround Me

Colligan

God, be the love to search and keep me; God, be the prayer to move my voice;
God, be the strength to now uphold me: O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

Bind to myself the Name of Holy, great cloud of witnesses enfold;
Prophets, apostles, angels witness: O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

Walking behind to hem my journey, going ahead to light my way,
And from beneath, above, and all ways: O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

Christ in the eyes of all who see me, Christ in the ears that hear my voice,
Christ in the hearts of all who know me: O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Giving our Gifts to God

Ruth Seignemartin

So those who were engaged in the work labored, and the repairing went forward at their hands, and they restored the house of God to its proper condition and strengthened it. -2 Chronicles 24:13
