Introit: Adagio from Symphony in C

Bizet
Jill Cathey, oboe

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 24:1-2, 28:8-9]

The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it;

For he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers.

The LORD is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed.

O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever.

Let us worship the LORD!

Come, Thou Almighty King (Hymn 139)

Felice de Giardini

Come, Thou Almighty King, help us Thy name to sing,
Help us to praise: Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious,
Come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days.

Come, Thou Incarnate Word, gird on Thy mighty sword,
Our prayer attend: Come, and Thy people bless,
And give thy word success; Spirit of holiness, on us descend.

Come, Holy Comforter, Thy sacred witness bear
In this glad hour: you who almighty art, now rule in every heart,
And ne’er from us depart, Spirit of power.

To Thee, great One in Three, the highest praises be,
Hence evermore! Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see
And to eternity love and adore.

Confession

God of resurrection, we long for a world at peace rather than full of chaos and violence. We know that you have conquered death and will destroy death, but we live in the in-between. From our limited perspective, we have a hard time seeing how your kingdom is moving forward. Forgive us when we are discouraged and doubt your presence or purpose. Forgive us when, in our anxiety, we try to use unloving methods to advance your kingdom. Renew our strength, and help us trust that you will be all in all. Amen.

Silence

All Who Are Thirsty

Brown

All who are thirsty, all who are weak,
Come to the fountain, dip your heart in the stream of life.

Let the pain and the sorrow be washed away
In the waves of his mercy as deep cries out to deep:

Come, Lord Jesus, come. (x3)

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation (Hymn 417)

Smart/7th century, Latin

Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ the head and cornerstone,
Chosen of the Lord and precious, binding all the church in one;
Holy Zion’s help forever, and our confidence alone.

To this temple, where we call you, come, O Lord of Hosts, today;
With your wonted loving kindness hear your people as they pray,
And your fullest benediction shed within its walls alway.

Here bestow on all your servants what they ask of you to gain,
What they gain from you forever with the blessed to retain,
And hereafter in your glory evermore with you to reign.

Laud and honor to the Father, Laud and honor to the Son,
Laud and honor to the Spirit, ever three and ever one;
One in might and one in glory while unending ages run.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Woody Garvin

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
