Introit: Someone’s Praying, Lord

African-American Spiritual, arr. Behnke

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 138]

We give you thanks, O Lord, with our whole heart; before the gods we sing your praise.

We give thanks for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;

for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.

Though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for us; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.

Let us worship the LORD!

To God Be the Glory (Hymn 485)

Doane/Crosby

To God be the glory, great things he hath done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
Who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give him the glory: great things he hath done!

Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son:
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

(Refrain)

Confession

Triune God, we want more of the connectedness that the disciples witnessed between Jesus and the Father. We are often too tired, hurried, or stressed to know how to pray. We have many needs, but sometimes we do not slow down enough to be honest with you or even with ourselves. Forgive us when we choose the smallness of self-sufficiency over the risk of trust. Holy Spirit, call us back, and help us find our agency to ask, search, and knock. Thank you for loving us and listening to us. Amen.

Silence

Think About His Love

Harrah

Think about His love, think about His goodness,
Think about His grace that’s brought us through.
For as high as the heavens above,
So great is the measure of our Father’s love.
Great is the measure of our Father’s love.

[Psalm 86:5]

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

Seek Ye First (Hymn 333)

Lafferty

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
And all these things shall be added unto you Al-le-lu, al-le-lu-ia!

Ask and it shall be given unto you, Seek and ye shall find.
Knock and the door shall be opened unto you Al-le-lu, al-le-lu-ia!

[Matthew 6:33]

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
