Introit: When the Morning Stars Together

Bayly/WEISSE FLAGGEN

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 27]

One thing we asked of the Lord, this we seek: to live in the house of the Lord, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

For he will hide us in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal us under the cover of his tent; he will set us high on a rock.

O Lord, we seek your face. Do not hide your face from us.

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Let us worship the LORD!

Song of Praise: Here I Am to Worship

Hughes

Light of the World, you stepped down into darkness,
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You,
Hope of a life spent with You.

(Chorus)
So here I am to worship, here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You’re my God.
You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.

King of all days, oh so highly exalted,
Glorious in heaven above.
Humbly You came to the earth You created,
All for love’s sake became poor. (Chorus)

And I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross.
I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross.

(Chorus)

[Psalm 95:6]

Confession

God our light, we seek your face, but sometimes we struggle to find a sense of your presence. We look for you to show up in grand and powerful ways, but perhaps you are all around us in humble ways. Forgive us when we overlook the people you have placed in our lives and the beauty of your creation. Help us understand your generous self-giving. May we find your presence by following your example – using the gifts and power we have to build others up. Amen.

Silence

As the Deer

Nystrom

As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee.
You alone are my heart’s desire, and I long to worship Thee.

Chorus
You alone are my strength, my shield; to You alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire, and I long to worship Thee.

You’re my friend and You are my brother even though You are a King.
I love You more than any other, so much more than anything.
(chorus)

[Psalm 42:1]

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

O God of Earth and Space (Hymn 274)

Huber/Hebrew melody

O God of earth and space, of sea and fire and air,
Your providence surrounds us here and everywhere.
In fruit and grain and tree, in shelter from the cold.
In cooling breezes, flowing wells, now as of old.

Where faithfulness is shown, where love and truth abound,
Where beauty graces human life, there you are found.
Inspirer of all thought! Creative force of art!
The melody on every tongue, in every heart!

Your word commands response and summons us to life.
We follow, strengthened by your grace in calm or strife.
Our ever-present help, our challenge and our prod.
We praise you now and to life’s end, Eternal God.

Sermon: The Appearing of What Appears

John Hoffman

Focus: God's self-outpouring fills all of Creation (including us)! Although we cannot control when or how we will experience the presence of God, by being attentive and by connecting with each other we may become more attuned to the experience of beauty—in which Creation is revealed to us as God's brilliant, unnecessary gift.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Ruth Seignemartin

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Giving our Gifts to God

Ruth Seignemartin

The lover of money will not be satisfied with money; nor the lover of wealth, with gain. This also is vanity. -Ecclesiastes 5:10

Musical Offering: Lento espressivo

Walton

Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
