Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 111]

Praise the LORD! Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.

Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the LORD is gracious and merciful.

He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.

Let us worship the LORD!

Praise the Lord, God’s Glories Show (Hymn 481)

Williams/Lyte

Praise the Lord, God’s glories show, Alleluia!
Saints within God’s courts below, Alleluia!
Angels round the throne above, Alleluia!
All that see and share God’s love. Alleluia!

Earth to heaven and heaven to earth, Alleluia!
Tell the wonders, sing God’s worth, Alleluia!
Age to age and shore to shore, Alleluia!
Praise God, praise forevermore! Alleluia!

Praise the Lord, great mercies trace, Alleluia!
Praise this providence and grace, Alleluia!
All that God for us has done, Alleluia!
All God sends us through the Son. Alleluia!

Confession

God who accommodates our weakness, you give us your words in ways we can hear without being overwhelmed. When we share your message, forgive us for not taking time to get to know the people we are trying to reach. Forgive us when we presume to know your word without listening to you first. Help us discern the things we may be doing that get in the way of people seeing your love through us, and help us value others’ faith and growth more than our own opinions and freedoms. Amen.

O What Shall I Render (Hymn 557)

Latin American hymn

O what shall I render for love so unbounded
That led Thee, dear Savior, for sinners to die?
Receive, I beseech Thee, my heart’s humble offering:
Thanksgiving and praises my glad heart upraises to Thee, Lord, on high.
Thanksgiving and praises my glad heart upraises to Thee, Lord, on high.

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

Blessed Jesus at Your Word (Hymn 454)

Ahle/Clausnitzer

Blessed Jesus, at your word we are gathered all to hear you;
Let our hearts and souls be stirred now to seek and love and fear you;
By your teachings true and holy, drawn from earth to love you solely.

All our knowledge, sense, and sight lie in deepest darkness shrouded,
Till your Spirit breaks our night with the beams of truth unclouded;
You alone to God can win us, you must work all good within us.

Glorious Lord, yourself impart! Light of light, from God proceeding,
Open now our ears and heart, help us by your Spirit’s pleading;
Hear the cry that we are raising; hear, and bless our prayers and praising.

Sermon: Telling the Truth and Stumbling Blocks

Focus: “We become free as we let go of our three primary energy centers: our need for power and control, our need for safety and security, and our need for affection and esteem.” –Richard Rohr

Response: Jesus, Lord, We Look to Thee

Wesley

Jesus, Lord, we look to thee, let us in thy name agree:
show thyself the Prince of peace; bid all strife forever cease.
Make us of one heart and mind, courteous, pitiful, and kind,
lowly, meek in thought and word, altogether like our Lord.

Let us for each other care, each the other's burden bear;
to thy church the pattern give, show how true believers live.
Free from anger and from pride, let us thus in God abide;
all the depths of love express, all the heights of holiness.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
