Prelude: At the Name of Jesus

Vaughan Williams, arr. Burkhardt

Introit: Every Eye Shall See

Gaither

Betsy Hammond

Every eye shall see, every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall confess to the glory of God that Jesus is Lord –
He is Lord, he is Lord, he is Lord.

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 138]

We give you thanks, O Lord, with our whole heart; before the gods we sing your praise.

We give thanks for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;

for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.

Though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for us; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.

Let us worship the LORD!

The God of Abraham Praise (Hymn 488)

Daniel ben Judah/Hebrew melody

The God of Abraham praise, who reigns enthroned above;
The Ancient of Eternal Days, the God of love!
The Lord, the great I AM, by earth and heaven confessed,
We bow before your holy name, forever blest.

Your spirit still flows free, high surging where it will;
In prophet’s word you spoke of old and you speak still.
Established is your law, and changeless it shall stand,
Deep writ upon the human heart by your strong hand.

Your goodly land we seek, with peace and plenty blest,
A land of sacred liberty and Sabbath rest.
There milk and honey flow, and oil and wine abound,
And trees of life forever grow with mercy crowned.

You have eternal life implanted in the soul;
Your love shall be our strength and stay, while ages roll,
We praise you, living God! We praise your holy name;
The first, the last, beyond all thought, and still the same!

Confession

God who became human, as we listen to the Psalms, we see emotions that we are often afraid to acknowledge in ourselves: anger, desperation, vengeance, fear, fragile hope, and unexpected joy. Learning to bring more of who we are before you is a humbling process. Jesus, we thank you for going to the depths of human experience rather than using your godhood to stay above it. Help us follow your example to use what we have and what we are for others. Amen.

He Is Lord

He is Lord, he is Lord! He is risen from the dead and he is Lord!
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri (Hymn 579)

Greatorex

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
Word without end. Amen, Amen.

Children’s Message

At the Name of Jesus (Hymn 148)

Williams/Noel

At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow,
Every tongue confess Him King of glory now;
‘Tis the Father’s pleasure we should call Him Lord,
Who from the beginning was the mighty Word.

Humbled for a season, to receive a name
From the lips of sinners, unto whom He came,
Faithfully He bore it spotless to the last,
Brought it back victorious, when from death He passed.

Christians, this Lord Jeus shall return again,
With His Father’s glory o’er the earth to reign;
For all wreaths of empire meet upon His brow,
And our hearts confess Him King of glory now.
