Be not afraid; sing out for joy! Christ is risen, alleluia!

Welcome & Call to Worship

[Psalm 118]

Leader: Christ has risen!

Response: He has risen indeed!
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever.
The LORD is our strength and our might; he has become our salvation.
We shall not die, but we shall live, and recount the deeds of the LORD.
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Let us worship the LORD!

Jesus Christ is Risen Today (Hymn 123)

Lyra Davidica

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia! Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia! Suffer to redeem our loss, Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia! Unto Christ our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia! Sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia!

Sing we to our God above, Alleluia! Praise eternal as God’s love; Alleluia!
Praise our God, ye heavenly host, Alleluia! Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Alleluia!

Confession

Gracious God, we have heard the good news: how on the third day, Christ rose again. However, what we hear all around us is bad news: war, disease, natural disasters, and many other struggles near and far. Forgive us when we run out to help but quickly turn around and go home without taking time to connect with anyone. Forgive us when we are overwhelmed with bad news and fail to trust your resurrection life within us. Help us live into the Easter hope that frees us from the grip of death to love one another as Jesus loved us. Amen.

Silence

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks (Hymn 106)

Fishel

Chorus:
Alleluia, alleluia, give thanks to the risen Lord;
Alleluia, alleluia, give praise to his name.

Spread the good news o’er all the earth; Jesus has died and has risen. (Chorus)

Come, let us praise the living God, joyfully sing to our Savior. (Chorus)

Forgiveness in Jesus Christ

Peace

The peace of Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Children’s Message

Christ Is Alive! (Hymn 108)

Williams/Wren

Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky.
Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death, shall never die.

Not throned afar, remotely high, untouched, unmoved by human pains,
But daily, in the midst of life, our Savior in the God-head reigns.

Christ is alive, and comes to bring good news to this and every age,
Till earth and sky and ocean ring with joy, with justice, love, and praise.

Focus: I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.

Response: Christ Has Risen While Earth Slumbers

Bell & Maule/Welsh melody

Lisa Phillips

Christ has risen while earth slumbers; Christ has risen where hope died,
As he said and as he promised, as we doubted and denied.
Let the moon embrace the blessing; let the sun sustain the cheer;
Let the world confirm the rumor: Christ is risen, God is here!

Christ has risen for the people whom he died to love and save;
Christ has risen for the women bringing flowers to grace his grave.
Christ has risen for disciples huddled in an upstairs room.
He whose word inspired creation can’t be silenced by the tomb.

Christ has risen and forever lives to challenge and to change
All whose lives are messed or mangled, all who find religion strange.
Christ is risen, Christ is present making us what he has been:
Evidence of transformation in which God is known and seen.

Pastoral Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
