The Apostles’ Creed

8-Week Guest Sermon Series with Rev. John Owen

We are grateful to Rev. John Owen for sharing this series as part of our plan to give the Starbuck family some needed time away this summer. If you miss a week or would like to listen again, sermons will be linked below.

Recordings:

  1. June 16 - I Believe - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 1

Focus: The Apostles’ Creed offers us a succinct way of understanding what it means to be a Christian.

  2. July 7 - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 2

Focus: What makes us distinctively Christian is what we believe about Jesus of Nazareth.

  3. July 14 - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 3

Focus: “…God’s Only Son, Our Lord"

  4. July 28 - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 4

Focus: “We Have Seen Strange Things Today.”

  5. August 11 - “It Ain’t Over Til…” - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 5

Focus: While the life and ministry of Jesus happened in a particular moment in human history, Jesus’ work continues, guiding us toward a future that is leading us toward the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom on earth.

  6. August 18 - Triptych - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 6

Focus: Although our faith has ancient roots, it is thoroughly forward looking.

7. September 1 - “The End…?” - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 7

Focus: Christ made it abundantly clear that only God knows the time and manner in which God’s Kingdom will be (re)established on earth. He also made it abundantly clear that it will happen, Christ will come again to usher it in, and we have been invited to enjoy it with him forever.

8. September 8 - “One Day We’ll All Understand” - The Apostles’ Creed, Week 8

Focus: “Faith seeking understanding,” in the words of St Anselm, is our hope. In the meantime, “wax on, wax off…breathe in, breathe out” can help us remember that we are called to live and serve in the present in humility, joy and confidence, because our future is assured through the grace and providence of God.”
